Is Handwriting a dying art?

In front of me I have a laptop, a mouse and beside that a pen and paper.  Even in this digital age I think, remember and work with a pen and paper.

The need to write will always be there but the beautiful curved, cursive handwriting of your grandmother I believe is in danger of dying out.  

Penning a letter for a reader other than yourself.  Could you imagine applying for a job without a printed letter?

Handwriting is a skill

 

Handwriting is a complex skill that combines fine motor control, posture and a plethora of rules and details.

 

In primary education handwriting is your child’s means through which they express their thoughts, ideas and knowledge.

 

Your child’s written work will be used as a measurement of their progress, understanding and performance.  Teachers obviously use a range of metrics but even today the majority of signifcant education milestones; spelling tests, worksheets, exams require your child to put pen to paper.

Fresh Phonics: Fun and games

Completing a worksheet involves reading words, writing letters and playing a letter-related activity.
There is plenty of variety across the 46 worksheets with activities including colouring, memory games, mazes and more.

In addition to completing worksheets Fresh includes 3 additional teaching activities.

The Digital Blackboard is perfect for practicing letter formation. The memory game is a bit of fun in which children can match the letters and words.  A children’s application would not be complete without a painting area.
